Cape Town Beer Route is a rich, half-day journey that focuses on South African beer culture and history.
The tour of the Cape Town Beer Route visits a traditional South African beer brewer, South African Brewery (SAB) in Newlands and Banana Jam Cafe in Kenilworth.
The tour starts at the home of a traditional beer brewer. Guests watch as she brews traditional African beer in her home, in the ancient handmade way. After watching the process, guests get to taste beer in the traditional way. They learn about the cultural role of beer in South African society.
The tour then moves on to SAB, the oldest commercial brewery in South Africa and the second biggest brewing company in the World. Guests explore brewing history and style in the original buildings before touring the modern production line and enjoying a few tasters.
The tour ends at Banana Jam Cafe, focussing on craft beer and micro-brewed beers. Banana Jam Cafe is considered Cape Town’s craft-beer headquarters and allows guests to discover the city’s artisan beers.
Included in the Cape Town Beer Route are pick-up and drop-off from accommodation, transfers, three tasting sessions and beer-inspired snacks.
The tour runs from 14:00 to 18:00 Monday through to Saturday.
